Summer vacation has come to a close, and school bells, for many Georgia students, are just 11 days away.  Backpacks are filled with every school supply on the list.   The first day of school outfits and uniforms have been purchased, pressed, and await their debut.  Lunchboxes and the new bedtime schedules are in place.  However, students may not be as academically prepared for the first day.  Statistics show, that during the summer, students lose about 1-2.6 months of reading, writing, and math computation skills.   That is why it is so important to combat those summer learning lapses with educational activities, throughout the vacation months.  This allows students to hit the ground running, on the first day of school.  With that in mind, the AMBCC will pilot a 3-day Academic Enrichment Boot Camp in August.

Adhering to the philosophy of preserving and strengthening families and communities, the AMBCC is proud to announce its partnership with New Life Christian Church International of Decatur, Georgia. As a result of this partnership, the 3-day Academic Enrichment Boot Camp for youth, ages 6-16, will be held from Tuesday, August 2, 2011 to Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 9-6pm daily. Lunch will be served.  Providing an academic refresher for youth attendees, the camp will cover mathematics, science, reading, and writing, as well as recess activities throughout the day. In addition to these fundamental skills, attendees will be afforded the opportunity to develop and cultivate their communication and leadership skills.

This in turn, will aid in their success for this upcoming school year. The camp is open to children of AMBCC members, as well as all children within the community. The 3-day Boot Camp serves as the official launch of the AMBCC Chamber Leadership Academy, which will be a year-round youth leadership-training program.
